Your Venue Website Is Losing You Bookings — Here's Why

Most hospitality websites were built to look good at launch and then left alone. The problem is that a website that was fine in 2020 is actively losing you customers in 2025. We audited 50 venue sites — here are the five issues we saw on almost every one.

Your Venue Website Is Losing You Bookings — Here's Why

We audited 50 hospitality venue websites last quarter. The results were sobering. The majority had at least three significant issues that were directly costing them bookings — and the owners had no idea.

Here are the five most common problems.

1. The Menu Is a PDF

A PDF menu is invisible to Google, unreadable on mobile, and creates friction at the exact moment a customer is deciding whether to book. Every dish on your menu should be live, indexed text on a dedicated page. This alone can lift organic search traffic by 30%+.

2. There Is No Clear Call to Action

Visitors should know within three seconds what the next step is. Is it "Book a table"? "View menu"? "Order online"? Most venue sites make users hunt for this. Every page should have one primary CTA above the fold.

3. Load Time Is Killing Mobile Conversions

If your site takes more than three seconds to load on a 4G connection, 53% of mobile visitors will leave before seeing any content. Most venue sites are loading full-resolution hero images, uncompressed gallery photos, and multiple analytics scripts on every page load.

4. The Google Business Profile and Website Are Telling Different Stories

Hours, address, phone number, and menu — if these are inconsistent between your website and your GBP, Google penalises you in local search rankings. Consistency across every platform is a ranking signal.

5. There Is No Review Social Proof Above the Fold

Your Google rating is the highest-converting trust signal you have. Displaying it prominently — with real quotes from real reviews — can lift booking intent by a measurable amount. Most sites hide reviews in a footer or leave them off entirely.
